Top Ten Fairy Tale Retellings on my TBR List

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

Hiya everyone! I hope you're all doing well and had a brilliant weekend. Tomorrow I'm meeting up with the guy I've spoken about, kind of excited but nervous. We're going to the London Dungeons and I know I'm going to be terrified haha, but anyway I'm hoping it will be a lovely day and no doubt I'll let you all know how it goes!

This week's Top Ten Tuesday is fairy tale retellings, I haven't read many so I felt that telling you those that are on my TBR list would be more exciting (seeing as there's loads of them!), so here they are:

Hook's Daughter by Heidi Schulz

(Peter Pan)

It's not easy being the daughter of Captain Hook. Twelve-year old Jocelyn dreams of following in his footsteps- but her grandfather sends her to finishing school instead. When her father meets his unfortunate end, Jocelyn sails to Neverland to avenge his death. But she hadn't bargained on ticking crocodiles, lazy pirates and a troublemaking boy called Peter Pan..."

Splintered by A.G. Howard

(Alice in Wonderland)

Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers- precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but he manages to keep it together. For now..."

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth's fate hinges on one girl.
Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She's a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets and about her past in order to protect her world's future..."

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

(Peter Pan)

Before Peter Pan belonged to Wendy, he belonged to the girl with the crow feather in her hair...
Fifteen year-old Tiger Lily doesn't believe in love stories or happy endings. Then she meets the alluring teenage Peter Pan in the forbidden woods of Neverland and immediately falls under his spell.
Peter is unlike anyone she's ever known. Impetuous and brave, he both scares and enthralls her. As the leader of the Lost Boys, the most fearsome of Neverland's inhabitants, Peter is an unthinkable match for Tiger Lily. Soon, she is risking everything- her family, her future- to be with him. When she is faced with marriage to a terrible man in her own tribe, she must choose between the life she's always known and running away to an uncertain future with Peter..."

Spelled by Betsy Schow

(The Wizard of Oz)

Fairy tale survival rule #32: If you find yourself at the mercy of a wicked witch, sing a romantic ballad and wait for your Prince Charming to save the day.
Yeah, no thanks. Dorthea is completely princed out. Sure being the crown princess of Emerald has it's perks- like Glenda Original ball gowns and Hans Christian Louboutin heels. But a forced marriage to the brooding prince Kato is not what Dorthea had in mind for her enchanted future.
Talk about unhappily ever after..."

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

(The Wizard of Oz)

I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't ask to be some kind of hero.
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado- taking you with it- you have no choice but to go along, you know?
Sure, I've read books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still a yellow brick road but even that's crumbling.
What happened? Dorothy..."

Red Riding Hood by Sarah Blakely-Cartwright

(Little Red Riding Hood)

Valerie's sister was beautiful, kind, and sweet. Now she is dead. Henry, the handsome son of the blacksmith, tries to console Valerie, but her wild heart beats fast for another: the outcast woodcutter, Peter, who offers Valerie another life far from home.
After her sister's violent death, Valerie's world begins to spiral out of control. For generations, the Wolf has been kept at bay with a monthly sacrifice. But now no one is safe. When an expert Wolf hunter arrives, the villagers learn that the creature lives among them- it could be anyone in town..."

The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor

(Alice in Wonderland)

When Alyss Heart, newly orphaned heir to the Wonderland throne, flees through the Pool of Tears to escape her murderous Aunt Redd, she finds herself lost and alone in Victorian London. Befriended by an aspiring author named Lewis Carroll, Alyss tells her violent, heartbreaking story of her young life. Alyss trusts this author to tell the truth so that someone, somewhere will find her and bring her home. But he gets the story all wrong. He even spells her name incorrectly!
Fortunately, Royal Bodyguard Hatter Madigan knows all too well the awful truth of Alyss' story- and he's searching every corner of our world to find the lost princess and return her to Wonderland, to battle Redd for her rightful place as the Queen of Hearts..."

Beastly by Alex Flinn

(Beauty and the Beast)

I am a beast.
A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog but a horrible new creature who walks upright- a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster.
You think I'm talking fairy tales? Now way. The place is New York City. The time is now. It's no deformity, no disease. And I'll stay this way forever- ruined- unless I can break the spell..."

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

(Beauty and the Beast)

"Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom- all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.
With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred year old curse he put on her people..."
